How would you like to take part in the world’s largest fundraising event for childhood cancer research? On behalf of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, Taylor and I are seeking your participation in an event that could save a child’s life. What began as a challenge among friends has grown into the world’s largest fundraising event for childhood cancer.
Because these youngsters typically undergo treatment that causes their hair to fall out (Taylor has 2 times so far), volunteers are recruited to shave their heads in public as a bold act of solidarity. These volunteers receive pledges of financial support from their friends and family. In turn, their generous donations help fund life-saving childhood cancer research.
Since its inception in 2000, St. Baldrick’s…
has raised more than $50 million for the cause! Worldwide, 160,000 kids are diagnosed with cancer each year and despite tremendous progress, cancer remains the #1 disease killer of children in the U.S. and Canada.
St. Baldrick’s research grants help fill
crucial funding gaps at medical institutions where children are treated for cancer, ensuring the
finest care for every child. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation has funded 25 research fellows, launching brilliant new careers in childhood cancer research. And grant funds have been distributed to over 230 institutions for laboratory research and to help make clinical trials available to more children than ever, giving those children treatment that offers the
best chance for a cure.
Every year, thousands of brave men, women, and children give up their locks to raise money for childhood cancer research.
I hope that you can join us as a shavee at Helen Fitzgerald’s Irish Pub and Grill on Saturday, March 7, 2009. Each shavee collects donations from their friends and family to support the cause. Believe it or not, people will give generously to see you sacrifice your lovely locks.
While battling cancer, children lose not only their hair but years of their childhood, and sometimes their lives. In comparison to their struggle, shaving your head is a small sacrifice, and the funds raised
will make a difference for children with cancer now and in the future.
Taylor spent much of the first 3 months of the year in the hospital so we did not participate in the event last year, however, she and I were able to attend the event. Just to be there was amazing for the 2 of us! The atmosphere of the event is simply electric! I can’t tell you how much it meant to her to see all these people going bald! Both Taylor and I have been looking forward to this year’s event so we could participate. We have registered a team in honor of Taylor. She decided on the team name of
Bella’s Baldies. We have set a TEAM goal of $5000 and I believe we can get there and even more! As much as we can get will be great, but as I am sure you can imagine we are passionate about this particular event! It is because of the money raised for Childhood Cancer Research that in the past 20 years Leukemia cure rates have gone from 20 to 80%. But that is still TOO LOW!
How much can we raise, to help give EVERY child a healthy future?
